Given Peru's immense territorial diversity, we also present some of the key themes that we have an interest in and seek to work on with our clients
Peru Nationwide
An ancient living civilization with an incredible endowment of natural resources, Peru’s territory served as headquarters both to the expansive Inca empire and the Spanish conquistadores.
Understanding its history, peoples and complexities is key to being successful here. In this section we lay out the transversal topics that we work on across the country’s different geographies.
Nationwide Themes
- Watershed management
- Mining corridors
- Natural resources management
- Climate change and El Niño
- Infrastructure and communications
- Social conflict management
- Poverty eradication & basic services
- Rural education & health
- Navigating Peru’s informality
- Protected areas and buffer zones
- Coast-Andes-Amazon Integration
Amazon
Hugely biodiverse, with numerous indigenous civilizations speaking over 50 languages and serving as a global climate regulator, the Peruvian Amazon is a vital territory both nationally and for the world.
But its realities are far from utopian. It is under constant pressure from deforestation and degradation, and plagued by a host of illicit activities, corruption, and preoccupying human development indicators.
Amazon Themes
- Deforestation and restoration
- Conservation & ecosystem services
- Agroforestry systems
- Eco businesses
- Commodity crops
- Alternative development mechanisms
- Indigenous peoples
- Carbon markets
- Communications and connectivity
- Genetic resources (Nagoya Protocol)
Andes
Many peaks of the Andes are Apus (Gods) to the ancient living cultures that inhabitant them to this day, serving as guardians of their unique cosmovision and ancestral knowledge in agrobiodiversity, watershed management, Andean terraces, arts and crafts, to name a few.
They also hold world-leading metal and mineral reserves, essential for the world’s green transition. Managing these many facets sustainably is however a tremendous challenge.
Andes Themes
- Mining: from exploration to closure
- Tailings reuse and circular economy
- Remediation of environmental liabilities
- Agriculture & agrobiodiversity
- Forestry
- Watershed management
- Soil erosion and degradation
- Climate adaptation and disaster readiness
Pacific & Coast
Peru’s Pacific coast stretches over 3,000 km, and, despite being arid, is home to around 60% of its 34 million population, including the mega city of Lima with around 11 million. Its waters are some of the richest fishing areas in the world thanks to the Humboldt Current and nourished by the lush sediments swept down from the Andes.
In recent years it has also experienced a huge agro-export boom, and the imminent Chancay mega port will change the region’s geopolitics.
Pacific & Coast Themes
- 30 x 30 Kunming-Montreal targets
- Maritime trade and ports
- Industrial, medium-scale and artisanal fishing
- Infrastructure
- Urban Management: sustainable, green and smart cities
- Agro-industrial expansion and exports
- Desertification management solutions

Why Choose LifeSystems?
LifeSystems was created in search of new approaches to building and operating private sector companies in a post-COVID world with increased geopolitical tensions, inequality, polarization, authoritarianism, deglobalization, climate change, biodiversity collapse, among a host of other critical issues.
At our core, and through the concepts of systems thinking, we aim to break down the traditional silos between the private, public, academic and civil society sectors, with a focus on cooperation, multi-actor governance mechanisms and a sustainable and just balance between the economic, environmental and social.
With that in mind, we offer our clients:
Profound territorial experience across Peru
Wherever your activities take you in Peru, we have a valuable appreciation of the political, regulatory, social, environmental and economic realities and challenges confronting you, and can guide you to making the right decisions.
Extensive network of multidisciplinary partners
Addressing sustainable territorial development with a systems thinking approach requires a full array of highly-specialized partners to draw upon, irrespective of what our specific clients' needs may be.
We take a bottom-up, participatory approach
In development, one size does not fit all. Each territory comes with its unique populations, heritage, characteristics and aspirations for the future.
As such, we start at the bottom, hand-in-hand with the local populations for whom the effectiveness of the proposed development is most at stake.
